What exactly is Casa Milà?
Antoni Gaudí built Casa Milà between 1906 and 1912 for the married couple Pere Milà and Roser Segimon. It was his last private commission before he devoted himself entirely to the Sagrada Família — and his most radical: a limestone facade that rolls like a cliff face, with barely a straight line in sight.
Locals mockingly nicknamed it La Pedrera — "the stone quarry". Today it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site (1984) and one of Barcelona's most visited buildings, managed by the Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera. Inside, the visit covers four levels: the light-filled courtyards, a bourgeois apartment frozen in the 1900s, the attic with its 270 brick arches housing the Espai Gaudí exhibition, and the rooftop of sentinel-like chimneys that became the building's symbol.

When to go for the smallest crowds
La Pedrera opens at 9:00, an hour earlier than many museums in the city — and that first slot is gold. School groups and cruise crowds arrive from about 10:30. The 9:00 slot and the last afternoon slots are consistently the quietest.
- Best days: Monday to Wednesday. Avoid weekends and Spanish holiday bridges.
- Best light for photos: first thing on the rooftop (low eastern sun) or the Sunset entry for golden hour.
- Season: November to February (outside Christmas) is nearly queue-free; July and August need several days' notice.

Getting to Casa Milà
The address is Passeig de Gràcia, 92, on the corner with Carrer de Provença, in the heart of the Eixample district.
- Metro: Diagonal (L3 green and L5 blue), Passeig de Gràcia exit — a 1-minute walk.
- FGC: Provença station, 3 minutes away.
- Bus: lines 7, 22, 24 and V17 stop on Passeig de Gràcia; the hop-on-hop-off bus stops right outside.
- Train: from Renfe Passeig de Gràcia it's a 10-minute walk up the avenue.
- On foot: Casa Batlló is 500 m down Passeig de Gràcia; Plaça Catalunya is 15 minutes away.

Small bags and backpacks are fine, and there are lockers for medium-sized items. Strollers can be left in the area indicated by staff before you head up to the rooftop, where the stairs and ramps are narrow.
