The Sunrise visit is the building's best-kept secret: from 8:00 to 9:00, an hour before the doors open to the general public, a small group walks through Casa Milà with a guide. No queues, no heads in your photos, no waiting your turn to lean over the courtyards. Staff are still switching the building on; it feels like you let yourself in with the owner's key.

Sunset: the cheapest ticket, with the best light
The Sunset entry works the opposite way to Sunrise: instead of paying more for exclusivity, you pay less for the late slot. From €25 — four euros below general Essential admission — you get into the building between 17:30 and 20:30 (in winter the slot moves earlier with the sun), with a self-guided route through the courtyards, period apartment, Espai Gaudí attic and rooftop.
The reward is upstairs: time your slot to coincide with golden hour and you'll watch the facade stone and the "espanta-bruixes" chimneys shift from ochre to copper as the sun drops over the Eixample. It's the light behind every postcard shot of the rooftop.

What light to expect at each time of day
8:00 — Sunrise
Low eastern sun that rakes across the rooftop with long shadows and turns the stone pink. The bonus isn't only the light: it's framing the chimneys without a single person in shot.
Midday
Overhead, hard light: the facade gains contrast, but the rooftop loses nuance and the heat bites in summer. It's the busiest slot too — better for the interior than for roof photos.
Golden hour — Sunset
The limestone turns copper and the sky becomes a gradient behind the rooftop warriors. Look up the exact sunset time for your date and book the slot before it.
Dusk and night
Blue hour, with the Passeig de Gràcia street lamps lit, belongs to the final Sunset slot and to the night visit, when the chimneys turn into a projection screen.
Remember: the rooftop can close in rain or strong wind, whichever ticket you hold. If the forecast is poor and your fare allows it, move the booking to another day.

- Pick your side. Do you get up early for an empty rooftop (Sunrise, €39.50, guided in English or Chinese) or stretch the day with the cheapest ticket (Sunset, from €25)? - Check the sun times for your date. For Sunset, the trick is to go in 60-90 minutes before the sun sets: that leaves time for the interior and puts you upstairs in the good light. In summer that means the last slots; in winter, the first ones of the afternoon.

- Arrive 10-15 minutes early. The visitor entrance is on the corner of Provença and Passeig de Gràcia. Metro Diagonal (L3/L5), FGC Provença or buses 7, 22, 24 and V17. Show the ticket on your phone and you're in.
- Build a morning or an evening around it. After Sunrise: breakfast in the Eixample and Casa Batlló with no queues.
